Apple iPhone 12 is very nearly here—and it’s promising a massive leap forward from older generations of smartphones. That’s no mean feat when you consider Apple’s relentless new release schedule, the dozens of different iPhone models released over the last decade, and the company’s dogged dedication to constantly raising the bar on what you can expect from your average smartphone. But where many of those old innovations ended up in dead ends, the iPhone 12 specs and hardware point toward a phone that could potentially stay future proof for the next five years or more. A new OLED Super Retina display, Apple’s fastest new processor, and lightning fast 5G connectivity all point to a premium phone that might actually be worth its premium price tag. Today, we’re going to take a deeper look into this new iPhone 12 to show you what you can expect, what kind of value you’re getting, and how it stacks up to the competition. Let’s get started with first impressions…
The iPhone 12’s Dramatic New Look
From the first moment you see or pick up an Apple iPhone 12, you’re going to know you’re looking at something different … Gone are the rounded edges that gave older iPhone models a bit of a “lozenge” look. These new iPhone 12 models have flat sides with aluminum housing (stainless steel on premium models) that’s a bit of a throwback to the old iPhone 4 models that had a similar design. It’s a look that really works for the iPhone 12, giving the new smartphone slightly industrial feel that complements the edge-to-edge display and contrasts against some of the warm colors available. The flat sides also make it that much easier to keep a good grip on your phone. There’s also the added practical concern that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max are slated to have large footprints of 6.1” and 6.7” respectively (the latter being the largest screen Apple has ever put on a phone). There have also been rumors of a smaller 5.4” model that might be a follow-up to the company’s massively popular iPhone SE. But remember; we haven’t even gotten to the screen yet … Even the baseline models of the Apple iPhone 12 are slated to come with OLED Super Retina displays. These OLED displays are a huge upgrade in just about every way; providing better color, contrast and viewing angle, while also reducing power draw for better battery life.
The two smaller models, iPhone 12 & iPhone 12 Mini, are slated to come with OLED Super Retina displays from BOE, but the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will come with Samsung’s Pro Motion High Refresh OLED displays for the very best in picture quality. These new iPhone 12 displays are something you’ll simply need to see to believe. Color choices and availability aren’t yet finalized, but leaks indicate we could see an amazing new shade of blue in addition to the return of classic colors like Midnight Green and Space Gray. So now that we’ve covered the outside of the iPhone 12, what about the inside? Let’s take a look at the iPhone 12 specs in more detail …
The iPhone 12 Comes with Apples Fastest, Smallest Processor
The iPhone’s processor has for years been the heart and soul of what makes this one smartphone so magic—and that’s no different with the iPhone 12. Going all the way back to Apple’s very first iPhone, their ARM processors have always just been that much better, just a step ahead of the competition. That’s exactly the case with their new A14 Bionic Processor. In terms of its raw specs, the iPhone 12’s processor is just about on par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 and the last generation’s A13 processor. But the similarities end there. Instead of using the same 7nm architecture as those older chips, the new A14 is a 5nmchip. With that smaller size, you get a chip that uses substantially less power and generates substantially less heat than its competitors. With less heat, the processor can run faster, and with less power, you get more features and a longer battery life. New leaks even indicate that the A14 chip is “about 15% faster but uses a full 30% less power than the current A13 or Snapdragon 865 Plus.” Obviously this is game changing news for the iPhone 12.
Perhaps the best part of it too, is that all new iPhone 12 models are going to get this A14 chip. Large and small, high end and low end, you’re getting Apple’s fastest-ever processor. That’s great news for hardcore users, early adopters, and anyone that just wants to get the most out of their smartphone for years to come. So even as the updates pile on, even as you start working with new apps and features, you won’t have to worry about your iPhone 12 slowing down or your battery life suddenly deteriorating. All of this is phenomenal news. Because once you see the host of amazing features that come with the iPhone 12, you’ll be putting this A14 processor to good use.
The iPhone 12 Unlocks Blazing Fast 5G Speed And More…
If there’s one thing we’ve come to know from Apple, it’s that they may not always do something first, but they almost always do it right. One of the best examples of that has to be their iPhone cameras. They won’t always have the highest megapixel rating; they may take years to debut their amazing “Night Mode,” and only then on their highest-end models. But when you do get it in an iPhone, you know you’re going to love it. That’s exactly the case with the iPhone 12’s dual camera display. Rumored to work pretty similarly to the iPhone 12’s already-amazing dual camera display, this one is likely to include both a 12MP wide angle and a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens. Higher end models like the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are rumored to be coming with a triple camera cluster and Apple’s first-ever LiDAR sensor. That’s a pretty substantial upgrade, but it’s also not the kind of thing most users will really need. But the most important new internal feature of the iPhone 12—the one that’s got everyone talking—is the inclusion of a new 5G modem, tapping into the latest in cellular network innovation. If you’re not familiar, 5G is basically the solution to everything you hate about your cell phone service. With latency times as low as 1ms and download rates of up to 20 GBits/second, 5G delivers a whole new level of uninterrupted speed and service that will make your smartphone even more useful and convenient than ever before. So why 5G phones isn’t a bigger deal yet? Well, like all new smartphone technology, it’s limited by the carriers and networks behind the scenes. Just like 3G and 4G before it, you won’t see the benefit if you’re not getting the bandwidth. But all that is changing … And as 5G coverage rolls out across America, the iPhone 12 will be able to take advantage of all that bandwidth. Combine that with the new A14 processor we just talked about, and you’ll start to see why we’re so excited about this new model.
Which iPhone 12 Is Right For Me?
The new iPhone 12 comes in four different variations that are targeted at different types of smartphone users … The smallest (a 5.4” model) was released in late 2020 and it’s rumored that it might not have that power-hungry 5G modem. Like we mentioned before, this iPhone 12 is most likely a follow-up to the top-selling iPhone SE, giving us more of an “entry-level” smartphone that carries easy in your pocket. Entry-level is in quotes there because you’ll still be getting an A14 processor, OLED Super Retina display, and everything you’ve come to know and love about Apple’s iPhones. The main model, and probably the best fit iPhone 12 for most everyone, comes with a 6.1-inch screen, dual camera cluster and 5G connectivity. This model will certainly look and feel larger than the 5.4” version, but the 6.1” size is still a perfect goldilocks zone that fits in pretty much any pocket or purse. The iPhone 12 Pro is slated to have that same 6.1” screen but with a Samsung Pro Motion OLED display and 10-bit color depth. All that adds up to a substantially nicer-looking screen with a higher refresh rate than you’ll see on pretty much any other phone. The iPhone 12 Pro is perfect for the tech-savvy crowd, working as a feature-rich alternative to something like a Samsung Galaxy. Apple’s new top of the line, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, is nothing short of a masterpiece. Clocking in at a massive 6.7” with that same Samsung Pro Motion display, you’re getting 5G connectivity, a triple camera cluster, LiDAR sensor and so much more. You’ll pay a premium for all the awesome features in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, but if you’re a creative professional or anyone else who will actually use those features, it’s probably one of the best phones in the world for you.
Does the iPhone 12 Live up to the Hype?
It should be obvious at this point that the answer is a resounding yes. Even though we see new iPhone releases every year. Even though it’s hard not to be impressed by everything Apple does, it’s hard not to see the new iPhone 12 as a huge leap forward. Apple’s iPhone displays have always been some of the best on the market. Now, with the incorporation of OLED technology, Apple’s taking it to the next level. Combine that with the new A14 processor and lightning-fast 5G compatible, and you’ve got an amazing synergy of new features and innovations. But that doesn’t mean the new iPhone 12 is perfect right out of the box … For one, battery life is always something to think about with iPhones. Especially now, with so much new technology in the iPhone 12, we could be looking at an especially power-hungry phone. For that, you’ll probably want to consider a wireless charger (or two) to keep in your home and office. Wireless chargers are a massively convenient way for topping off charge throughout the day. When it comes to that amazing OLED display, scratches and cracks are never fun to look at on your smartphone’s screen, and that’s doubly true with a screen as nice as this. You’ll want to get a glass screen protector from Caseco on there as soon as you can. Tempered glass is best because it can be ultra-thin (as thin as .2mm) for practically zero distortion. That means you can enjoy your iPhone 12’s new OLED screen without having to worry. All in all, the new iPhone 12 is a phenomenal investment—so make sure you protect it with our products from Caseco! In 2021 the iPhone 13 models were released by Apple with a lightning-fast chip and huge battery life. If you own one, you’re sure to not take a risk with its safety.
